Akasa

Graduation Gerrit Rietveld Academie

2014

Akasa is a sanskrit word, most commonly translated as space, sky, subtlest form of energy of the universe.

I have always been fascinated by the geometric forms and shapes in nature and urban landscape, and tried to search for my own realities in my photographs. My new perception now turned my focus rather towards invisible forces behind matter, energies which connect each of us. I followed my senses to choose different materials in order to create 'mindscapes', my own reference to Space and the other four elements: Water, Fire, Air, Earth.
I have been experimenting beside other materials with metal and glass out of pure intuition. My intention is to transmit an understanding of harmony which is to be found everywhere in nature, while trying to find my own cosmic compositions. Recognition of this harmony could bring us perhaps more awareness in the future.

“Not of the senses, not of the intellect, not of the heart but is the property that exclusively belongs to the deepest aspect of your being... the knowledge of your spirit.” (from Hilma af Klint)
